Last week, leaked images revealed that the Moto Z2 Play would be revealed on June 1st. But that was merely a leak and had not been seconed by Motorola. That is, until now. Yesterday, Motorola Canada disseminated a tweet which stated that the next “bold phone” from Motorola would be introduced on June 1st. While the name of the device in question was not announced, we would have to believe that it will be the Moto Z2 Play.
The Moto Z2 Play looks pretty much like the original model according to previous leaks. One difference is in the shape of the fingerprint scanner at the bottom of the display, which has been changed from a square to an oval. While the first-generation Moto Z Play is known for its outstanding battery life, Motorola has cut the capacity on the battery of the sequel from 3510mAh to 3000mAh. We could still see stellar energy conservation thanks to the Snapdragon 626 chipset that will be powering the second-generation handset. That chip is as much of an energy sipper as the Snapdragon 625 SoC is. The latter helps drive the first-generation model.
Motorola Canada says it will unveil its next bold phone on June 1stRecently we were able to show you what the retail box of the phone is supposed to look like. The sticker that covers the handset’s screen out of the box reveals that the 5.5-inch display will carry a 1080 x 1920 FHD resolution. 4GB of RAM is inside, and the phone will come with 64GB of native storage. For many, that is more than enough capacity to cover every app they would want to install, with room left over for some media content. A 12MP rear-facing camera is included.
June 1st is tomorrow, so we should know all about the Moto Z2 Play, including pricing and availability, very soon. There is a theory that this phone will replace the Moto Z in Motorola’s 2017 lineup, which partially explains shrinking the battery to make the new unit thinner. This would leave the manufacturer with a high-end Moto Z2 Force and a mid-range Moto Z2 Play.
